- The statements were made today at the 8th Energy Forum organised by El Economista.
- Entitled “The Review of the National Energy and Climate Plan”, the event brought together business leaders from the energy sector.
Eduardo Criado, CEO of the Andalusian company DVP Solar, participated today in the VIII Energy Forum, organised by El Economista in Madrid. The event, which focused on the review of the National Energy and Climate Plan and which brought together business leaders from the energy sector in our country, was inaugurated by Francisco Reynés, Chairman of Naturgy, among a number of other personalities.
DVP Solar, a company specialising in the development of large-scale photovoltaic solar energy projects in both Europe and Latin America, was represented by its CEO, Eduardo Criado, at the round table discussion on the deployment of renewable energies in the run-up to 2030. In this regard, Criado was notably optimistic, as he expects “a large penetration of both solar and wind energy in our country”. He predicted that “the challenges of the current government, in terms of renewable energy production, will probably be met”.
While this will help to lower electricity prices significantly in the short term, especially during peak sunshine and windy hours, Criado foresees operational problems in terms of energy system management. Moreover, “in the medium term, the system will tend to self-correct thanks to batteries and hydrogen, as well as with the increase in energy needs derived from the increased circulation of electric cars”.
Decisions that will shape the future of the sector
Asked about the expected reform of the wholesale market in the energy sector, Criado advocated that, in this aspect, the state should be as minimally interventionist as possible, since “the best thing is for companies to be given the freedom to find their own solutions and thus bring together the interests of the main players, both energy demanders and suppliers”.
Bearing in mind that we have “a reasonably good and attractive legislative framework for business investment” for the coming years, and referring to his own experience as CEO of a company that develops photovoltaic, battery and hydrogen energy projects, Criado does consider it “a challenge for the Spanish government to provide the necessary personnel, both in terms of numbers and training, and thus meet the needs of a sector that will logically increase”. If there is anything that needs to be improved in the processing of these projects, he said, it is precisely “the delays we usually suffer in obtaining permits”.
About DVP Solar
DVP Solar is a multinational company based in Seville that develops photovoltaic energy projects in an efficient, profitable and environmentally responsible manner, in parallel with the fight against climate change. With a current portfolio of 3GW in different countries in Europe and Latin America, it expects to reach 5GW in two years. This rapid expansion is based on a technological development that allows for maximum efficiency in the storage and processing of photovoltaic energy.
DVP Solar takes care of the entire process: identifying the right land and reaching an agreement with its owner, establishing partnerships with local developers to promote the project, designing the optimal connection to the grid, dealing with the administration to obtain the necessary permits, securing the most advantageous financing, supervising the construction of the PV plant and finally managing the owning company, taking into account its operation and maintenance. The company, owned by Everwood Capital, currently employs 65 people in five locations in Spain, Germany, Italy, France and Colombia.
